$17.75 per hour

Job Description:

Due to an internal promotion, the Shorewood-Troy Library seeks an innovative, creative, full-time Adult & Teen Services Outreach Specialist to be part of our Adult & Teen Services Team. The Adult & Teen Services Outreach Specialist is responsible for:

  • Planning and providing various community outreach services, including homebound delivery, service to senior living communities, service to local middle schools and high schools, attendance at community events and fairs, and other outreach opportunities.

  • Outreach to the local business community and other targeted adult populations.

  • Instructs and assists patrons in the use of electronic and print resources.

  • Selection of some library materials

  • Assists in the troubleshooting of routine technical issues with patron and staff computers.

  • Regularly scheduled on the Reference Desk.


  • An LTA or Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

  • Experience working with senior and/or teen populations.

  • Knowledge of current trends in libraries and technology.

  • Basic understanding of the Shorewood, IL area.

Standard office skills such as the ability to work with Microsoft Office products, Google Workplace phone skills, reliable transportation to work, with the ability to attend meetings and outreach events as required. The ability to lift 25 pounds is also required.

The salary for the position is $1,420 biweekly ($17.75 per hour). Benefits include:

  • 160 hours of paid vacation time annually.

  • 96 hours of sick time annually; can accumulate up to 320 hours.

  • Two days of personal leave after one year of employment.

  • Participation in one of the three employer-offered health insurance plans (a low-deductible PPO, a high-deductible PPO, and an HMO). The Library pays 80% of the cost of the lowest cost health plan (currently the high-deductible PPO); the opportunity to buy family coverage at cost is also available.

  • Participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
