Glenview Public Library Assistant Director to Retire After 38 Years

Jane Berry

After 38 years at the Glenview Public Library, Assistant Director Jane Berry will retire on March 31, 2021. Ms. Berry started her career at the Library as a substitute Librarian in the Youth Services Department in 1983 after earning her degree from Long Island University. Throughout her time at the Library, she worked as a Librarian in Adult Services, first as the Library's first Young Adult Librarian, and later as Collection Manager. In 1997, she settled in as the Assistant Director, which at the time was paired with the Head of Adult Services. Ms. Berry worked as the Interim Director of the Library for a brief time in the summer of 2002 before continuing her position as Assistant Director, where she stayed until her retirement.

With such a long career, Ms. Berry has had her hand in many Library initiatives. Some of her fondest memories include meeting Gwendolyn Brooks, participating in the Library's 75th anniversary, and, most of all, being an active participant on the team that planned the construction of the current Library building. "I looked forward to weekly meetings, listening and learning about so many different aspects of construction, and have enjoyed the privilege of this lovely building for ten and a half years," Berry says. "After so many years of thinking a new building would never happen, being in this new Library is almost like a dream come true."

The Library staff and Board will greatly miss Ms. Berry and wish her all the best in her retirement.
